VISION :

“To commit ourselves, whole and soul to the supply, storage and provision of clean, sanitized water that exceeds the minimum standards of hygiene and flow as prescribed by the Sphere Handbook, the internationally recognized charter on humanitarian disaster intervention.”

MISSION :

To develop indigenous and innovative mobile water treatment, storage, distribution & water testing systems that are affordably priced and easily potable to make a relevant, responsive and reliable contribution to any and every size and scale of relief effort, both Nationally and Internationally in a manner that combines science with sensitivity and technology with humanity.

With over 14 years of experience in developing mobile water treatment, storage, distribution & water testing systems, especially with regard to disaster management, the Aquaplus ethos is simple:
Making available affordably priced, reliable and responsive water solutions to any organization during emergency.
To that end, our disaster management unit was set up in 2004 to focus on extensive Research and Development in the area of clean water especially in emergencies. Over the years, we have developed different systems and equipment capable of making a valuable contribution to any size and scale of relief effort.
As an organisation we work closely with partners, such as Oxfam GB, RedR India, The Red +, IFRC, ICRC, Global Medics, Unicef, Rotary and the renowned research institute the Centre for Environmental Health Engineering at the University of Surrey UK, University of Laval Canada to design and test water treatment systems that are appropriate for use in emergencies.
Our systems are varied and versatile, resilient and reliable, flexible, fit to size, and above all, in compliance with the Sphere handbook, the internationally recognized document for universal minimum standards in humanitarian response .
Aquaplus: ‘coz clean water saves lives.

The Sphere handbook
The Sphere Movement was started in 1997 by a group of humanitarian professionals of assorted experiences and competencies, with the sole aim of improving the quality of humanitarian work during disaster management, relief and intervention initiatives.
So whether it is armed conflict and civil war, earthquakes or cyclones, floods or famine, the one thing that remains unchanged is the need for intelligent, customized and focused intervention that upholds every man, woman and child’s right to life with dignity.
Naturally, a steady supply of clean water is a basic aspect of disaster intervention.
Studies indicate human beings can survive about a month without food, but less than a week without clean water.
Clean water can contain the toll of death and disease and prevent the outbreak of an epidemic. So be it the floods of Kerala or Jammu and Kashmir, or the numerous genocides and earthquakes the world over, an adequate supply of clean water is a must.
Key indicators defined by the Sphere water clearly mandate: At least 15litres per person per day for washing, bathing and drinking, flow at each point 0.125 l per sec; one water point per 250 people not further than 500 meters from the shelter.

Water Quality Parameters

Turbidity Less Than 5 NTU
Faecal Coliforms 0/100 ml
Residue Chlorine 0.2-0.5 mg/ l

In India, this becomes even more important as UNICEF reports 2015 state that as many as117,300 children under 5 years of age died of water borne diseases in a single year.
Studies by UNICEF show that I gram of faeces can contain up to 10 lakh (1 million) bacteria; all together, 1 trillion germs can live in one gram of human excreta.
If this is the condition in regular times, just think how intolerable the situation would be for refuges of disaster, man-made or otherwise.
At Aquaplus, all our research and development is focused on ensuring that the water supply in any intervention program far exceeds the minimum standards of hygiene and flow.
After all, the availability of clean water is the first critical differentiator between life and death.
