Heavy rains battered large swathes of the country and the situation remained grim in flood-hit parts of Maharashtra. Several deaths in rain and flood-related incidents have been reported from western Maharashtra in the last seven days. Floodgates were also opened in the dams in Maharashtra.

Aquaplus team reached at affected location in time to help needy people and assisted promptly to get drinkable water in villages.

Nearly 2.5 lakh people have been evacuated in Sangli, Kolhapur and Pune, Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar said. He warned people against travelling on the Mumbai-Bengaluru national highway.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued over 8,000 people from Sangli district and over 2,000 people from Kolhapur district.
